TE BURRI (Page 2)
India had been invaded and conquered in the third century BC by the Hoplites of Alexander the Great. The Greeks exerted a powerful influence on Indian culture in such diverse areas as art, philosophy, and Yoga.
The Yoga practice of pranayana in particular shows strong evidence of Greek philosophical concepts. Greeks dominated the Indian ruling class (that is, the warrior caste) after the conquest. The Indians form of this exercise latter bacame known as Club Swinging(fig 3) and enjoyed great popularity in Europe and America in the early part of the twentieth century.
The 18 Lohan and the Muscle Changing exercises bear an uncanny resemblance to ancient Greek gymnastics(fig 4) as described by a trainer of gladiators, the famous Greek physician, Galen.
